HOW WILL THE PILOT PROGRAM BE IMPLEMENTED?  WHO WILL BE INVOLVED?

MusiKiva Canada will oversee the delivery of a professionally–designed program which utilizes therapeutic music interventions to foster the development of individual self-esteem and cultural connection and harmony.  This includes ensuring the integrity of the program through the use of professionally-trained music therapists and their aides to deliver the Music Therapy Exchange program in Canada and Africa.  As such, MusiKiva Canada has engaged a music therapy provider that consistently reflects the highest standard of care and demonstrates the highest level of expertise in program design and delivery.

The pilot program, facilitated by professional music therapists, will be delivered in three parts:
  • local groups, each participating in sessions held weekly for eight weeks, located in Calgary,Alberta;
  • groups overseas, each participating in sessions held daily for ten days, located in Banda Village, Rwanda; and
  • previous Calgary groups, each participating in sessions, held weekly for two weeks, in Calgary, Alberta.
Participants will be chosen through consultation with JB Music Therapy and Kageno Worldwide Inc.  Those involved will be considered “at risk” by virtue of poor health, disability, bereavement, poverty, addiction, or highly stressful lifestyles.  The children and youth will predominately fall in the age range of 3 – 18.

A comprehensive evaluation will be on-going throughout the pilot program to measure progress with regard to identified aims/purpose.  Examples of areas for measurement may include, but not be limited to, level of participation, initiative, and self-expression.
